Franklin Square Hospital Center Selects Dynamic
Imaging
for Web-Driven PACS Solution
Cites Improved Clinician Service and Communication
as Key
May 20, 2004,
Allendale, NJ — Dynamic Imaging
announces installation of IntegradWeb, its second-generation
fully web-driven PACS, at Franklin Square Hospital Center (Baltimore,
MD), a 300-bed hospital, which is a part of MedStar Health, the
largest hospital system in the Washington D.C./Baltimore corridor.
In addition to bringing new speed and efficiency to the radiology
department, a key goal of the project was providing ultra-fast,
comprehensive communication to referring clinicians both within
and beyond the hospital.
Critical Care Unit Chairman Dr. Stephen
Selinger notes, "Immediate
access to patient images enhances workflow and improves patient
care in the ICU by providing the data needed to make informed
patient care decisions when time is of the essence." The
system will have similar impact in the emergency room, intensive
care unit, neonatal intensive care unit and other critical hospital
areas. Throughout the enterprise and beyond, authorized physicians
can access the data and tools they need instantly on any Internet-enabled
computer thanks to IntegradWeb's true web-driven architecture.
The new Dynamic Imaging PACS also
has had significant impact in the radiology department, which
handles over 120,000 studies annually. IntegradWeb speeds workflow
and brings all the tools needed right to the radiologists'
fingertips, says Dr. Andrew. "Integration
with the hospital's Siemens Novius RIS is seamless, and IntegradWeb
also provides radiologists and clinicians with simultaneous real-time
access to both images and reports," he says.
Andrew says IntegradWeb's web-driven
architecture distinguished it from the competition. He comments, "We
looked at three other products from vendors with whom we had
established relationships. But when compared to the benefits
of a true web-driven PACS, these products paled by comparison.
We quickly realized IntegradWeb could not only achieve our
goals today but also provided an open, adaptable architecture
to support our growth going forward."
Additionally, with IntegradWeb, all data are stored online,
while other vendors' systems used some offline storage. Dynamic
Imaging's overall costs were lower for two reasons: IntegradWeb
eliminated the need to purchase specialized PACS workstations
and its web-driven architecture allowed Franklin Square Hospital
Center to make images available anywhere with negligible IT overhead.
Dr. Andrew concludes, "IntegradWeb
is the complete PACS package. It is cost-effective, which makes
our administration happy, while improving service to clinicians
and simplifying workflow for the radiologist."
